According to a MoneySense report on Where to Buy Real Estate 2019 in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and surrounding area, smaller communities are where it’s at.  Move over, Toronto, because Angus, Ontario, in Essa, just took the #1 spot for recommended neighbourhoods in which to buy your next home.

Move over, Toronto, because Angus, Ontario, in Essa, just took the #1 spot for recommended neighbourhoods to consider buying your next home. Regions that were included in the report were York, Metro Toronto, Simcoe County, Peel, Halton and Durham.  Other notable mentions in Simcoe County ranked among the 427 as follows:

#8 Lefroy

#9 Lisle

#10 Alliston

#17 Cookstown

#20 Stroud

Angus is a small, quiet community about 90 km northwest of the GTA which employs many of its residents in the military at CFB Borden or in agriculture. What helped Angus take the top spot was the community itself along with the average house price, a bargain at just under $500K. This is about half the cost of the average home in the GTA. Given that 20% of the population is made up of children under the age of 14 and only 8% are over the age of retirement, it’s a perfect place for families. Recent home buyers in the area are all smiles to learn that home values have gone up 13% in the last year and 88% in the last five years.
